World Cup 2018

Since my blog is originally about TV shows, I figured most of you aren’t really huge football fans, so in light of the recent beginning of the 2018 World Cup, I have prepared somewhat of a guide for those of you who have absolutely no idea what is going on.

First of all, where is all of this happening?

This year the World Cup is being held in Russia. The first game, on Thirsday, between the host Russia and Saudi Arabia, was in Moscow. But over the next month, games will be played in 11 cities from Yekaterinburg to St. Petersburg.

Who is playing (And who isn’t)?

Firstly, the US is certainly not. Italy and the Netherland, two perennial soccer powers, did not qualify for the World Cup this time either. Other than that, the big teams are Germany, Spain, France, Argentina, Brazil and England.

There are 32 teams in total and they are organized into eight four-team groups. Each team plays three matches – one against each of its group members. The two top teams from each group then advances to an elemination stage…

How to pick a team?

If you want to look like you know more about the World Cup than you do, it’s always easier to learn a lot about a single team, instead of a little about all of them. Just pick a team (after doing some research of course: read a few articles on the subject), learn a little bit about them and who their best players are. That’s pretty much all it takes to seem knowledgeable enough.
