Digitalization – is it good for us?

The modern day is evolving everyday and it is becoming more and more fast paced for the people living in it. There is no longer time or comfort in reading a book in the bus or the metro and the nowadays  literature is replaced by your phone. So this is where digitalization steps in to help.

First of all, for the people that don’t know, digitalization is the process of extracting the information from a material source and then transforming it into digital language, so it may appear on your phone just as it appears in real life. The result is the representation of an object, image, sound, document or signal by generating a series of numbers that describe a discrete set of its points or samples. Digitization is of crucial importance to data processing, storage and transmission, because it allows information of all kinds in all formats to be carried with the same efficiency.

As more and more people populating big cities start living a dynamic life filled with electronics, they think that everything that is not on their laptop or phone is less important than it actually is. So, this is why I think digitalization could be very useful for us. For example, the best way to present this process are books. Today the percentage of people who read often has lowered because of the environment we live in, we don’t have money for the book or simply we don’t have enough time and this is actually a big problem. So as of now, digitalization looks like a savior or just as an evolution to books. And it is, for me, a better way to read. Why? Well, because the access to different genres of books, whether it has been a fantasy or autobiography, has simplified through the years and has become easily usable by any person with a smartphone.

Another example for digitalization are the applications presented to you by the different softwares. The most popular choice that everybody has is “Maps”. You no longer need a big pile of paper or a globe, so that you can find where is your location. Everything nowadays is done just with the click of a button and this simplicity gives everybody a chance to participate in this digital “revolution”.

I have shown you some examples of digitalization, but if it wasn’t the Internet to connect them all, they wouldn’t have been a reality. This beautiful creation connect people from across the globe so that they can exchange information, emotions or just to have a simple talk. This invention connects is in a way that nothing else can. Not just in the digital world but even in reality.

And will this so called “revolution” actually help us? Well, for now we can just wait and hope for the best!
